Kate Morton - Director of OBI Presshouse
A trained primary teacher and keen environmentalist, Kate has created her own publishing company to produce a series of illustrated children stories that have been written to inspire and educate the next generation on wildlife preservation and protection.
Now retired and living on Bruny Island, off the East coast of Tasmania, Kate has the opportunity to be familiar with small native animals and birds and to see the effects of human habitation on their living conditions. She writes stories highlighting some of the instances of weather disturbance, habitat destruction and human encroachment on the animals environment.
Kate wants to create ways to have the younger generation understand the need for a change in thinking about the effects climate change and habitat damage have on native animals and birds. She is hopeful that when students reach adulthood, and are the decision makers, they will be aware of the issues involved. There are Lesson Plans for Primary teachers that can be bought with the books along with two more volumes being written to deal with the environmental effects of feral cats in the wild, and Fish Farms on the Tasmanian waterways.
